In the initial condition M2 X, in the form of needles and eutectic borders, and M23C6 are present. During long-time tempering M6C is precipitated as a further carbide phase, whilst M23C6 is dissolved. It may therefore be assumed that in the steel 10CrMo9-10 only M6C and perhaps also M2X occur as stable carbide phases.
